About us

The Social Ontology Research Unit was founded in February 2021 by Professor Stephen Pratten and Dr Yannick Slade-Caffarel. The unit is based at King's College London and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. Activities include educational initiatives deploying social ontology, doctoral supervision, as well as the coordination of collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects, seminars, conferences and summer schools.

The unit also has long established links with the Cambridge Social Ontology project and contributes to the organisation of activities at the University of Cambridge, such as the Cambridge Social Ontology Group, the Cambridge Realist Workshop and the Cambridge Social Ontology Summer School and Workshop. A central focus of the unit is the development, elaboration and deployment of social positioning theory.
